Motorola Mobility Sold to Google

Motorola is a major mobile phone manufacuture that already has a strong partnership with Google and their Android OS. Think of the "Droid" and all of its variations in recent yers.

Google will be buying Motorola Mobility (the wing of Motorola that actually makes phone and device hardware versus the other branch of Motorola that makes cell towers and what now) for only 12.5 Billion dollars. This is a premium price that is well over the actual market value of Motorola at the moment.

This could be an amazing step for Android, providing thousands of hardware patents and gives Google some extra power to direct the hardware direction for gadgets wanting to run Android.

I am extremely excited to see where this will go in the coming year.

From the Press Release:

“Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers."

Yah, I agree. I've been pretty "eeeh" when it comes to Motorola, but I think they will at least rock the house for Androids because Google will be able to make them how they've always dreamed hardware should run with the Android OS.
